OpenAI Launches Enterprise Version of ChatGPT Amid Growing AI Use in Businesses
OpenAI, the developer behind the prominent AI model ChatGPT, unveiled ChatGPT Enterprise on Monday, a specialized version designed with enhanced security, privacy, and an expedited GPT-4 experience for corporate users. This move is part of OpenAI’s ambition to further secure its position in the burgeoning AI market and quell concerns surrounding data vulnerabilities.
In a statement regarding the release, OpenAI emphasized its vision for an AI-driven workplace: “Today marks another step towards an AI assistant for work that helps with any task, is customized for your organization, and that protects your company data.”
The proliferation of AI chatbots in both professional and personal settings underscores the relevance of such a release. As per OpenAI’s announcement, the Enterprise iteration of ChatGPT boasts performance speeds that are twice as fast as its predecessor, no usage limits, unrestricted access to the recently launched GPT-4, enhanced analytical tools, and complimentary API credits.
To ensure a tailored fit for each business, OpenAI intends to customize the pricing based on individual company needs. While expressing the flexibility in pricing, an OpenAI representative mentioned, “Pricing will depend on each company’s use case.”
However, the ChatGPT’s integration into the corporate sphere hasn’t been without its challenges. Past concerns around data breaches and potential leaks have made some corporations wary. Addressing these concerns, an OpenAI spokesperson stated, “OpenAI takes privacy seriously, and we have had the same policy for our API: we don’t use data submitted by customers via our API to train or improve our models.”
Such concerns led tech giants like Apple, Samsung, and Amazon, among others, to discourage their employees from using ChatGPT in their professional capacities earlier this year. In light of such trepidations, OpenAI aims to bolster confidence in their product with enhanced cybersecurity measures.
Ensuring the safety of business data, OpenAI emphasized, “You own and control your business data in ChatGPT Enterprise. We do not train on your business data or conversations, and our models don’t learn from your usage.” Furthermore, to guarantee data integrity, OpenAI revealed that ChatGPT Enterprise is SOC 2 compliant, with all interactions being encrypted both in transit and when stored.
For context, SOC 2, introduced by the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants in 2010, is a regulation framework that oversees organizations handling customer data in cloud storage.
As the AI market continues to flourish, OpenAI faces competition from major players like IBM, NVIDIA, and Hewlett Packard. Newer entrants, like the AI startup Reka, which recently secured $50 million in funding, are also vying for a slice of the AI enterprise pie.
